When you imagine someone who has frequent headaches you may often think about adults. The latest headache pain news says that headaches in a child occur just as frequently as headaches in adults. Unless you are an adult who deals with headaches in children then you probably do not know much about this. However, you should know that before starting school almost 30% of children have had their first headache. Unfortunately nobody really knows what triggers headaches in a child.

Causes Of Headaches In A Child

There are many different reasons why children may get a headache. One thing to consider is family history. You will usually find that there are many other people in your family tree who have headaches. If this is true then you should not be surprised about headaches in your child. This is especially true for girls since the majority of people who suffer from migraines are females.

Another reason for headaches in children is head injuries. If your child has a head injury, then you should take your child to see their pediatrician. Then you will know how to properly treat the injury and what you should expect. If you choose not to do this and choose to treat the injury yourself, then you should be very careful if your child's headache gets worse. In which case, see your pediatrician to ensure that your child recovers properly and that the injury is not more severe.

Environment and Allergies

Your child's environment can also cause him or her to have headaches. These things include changes in the weather, bright lights, strong smells, dehydration, improper sleep and excessive loud noises. Of course, if your child is in a stressful environment that may also cause him or her to have a headache. You might not think that children's stress can cause headaches but it can, especially if there are problems within the home itself. Another place where stress can be found is at school.

You will also want to make sure that your child does not have a food allergy as this can also cause headaches. This is especially true with the flavor enhancer called MSG, monosodium glutamate, and caffeine, which can be found in chocolate and soda.

As you can see there are many sources of a child's headache and parents should pay special attention to these things.
